People are starting to ask an assistant instead of scrolling a results page. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot and Google's own AI answers all do the same thing: return one answer rather than ten links. Answer Engine Optimisation is the work of becoming that answer. It is not SEO with a new name — the mechanics are different, and so is what you have to build.

Questions
Is AEO just SEO with a new name?
No. Search returns a ranked list and you can win by being third. An assistant returns one answer. The work of getting named is about credible sources agreeing, not about ranking signals.
Can you guarantee ChatGPT will name me?
No, and nobody can. Model versions change, answers vary by region, and each assistant updates its sources on its own schedule. We build the coverage that makes it possible, and we have got clients named — but a guarantee would be a lie.
Does this work for Claude and Perplexity too, or only ChatGPT?
The same foundation serves all of them, because they are reading the same open web and looking for the same thing: independent sources that agree. What differs is when each one takes in new material, so they rarely start naming you on the same day.
How long does it take?
Coverage starts appearing within weeks. Whether a model picks it up depends on when that model next takes in new sources, which is outside anyone's control.
How do I know if it worked?
You ask the question and see. That is the whole appeal — unlike a ranking report, anyone can check it in ten seconds.
